| South Sydney returned back to the NRL in 2002 against the Roosters in front of a crowd of 35,316 at Aussie Stadium. | |
The South Sydney Rabbitohs are the most successful Club in Rugby League. Established in 1908, the South Sydney Club has won 20 first grade premierships and provided 62 internationals for the Australian side, and have famously worn their cardinal red and myrtle green colours since inception. In 1925, South Sydney was dubbed The Pride of the League and the Rabbitohs are known as this to this day.
The rebirth of the Rabbitohs began on 7 June, 2006 through a new partnership between Russell Crowe, Peter Holmes a Court and the 8000 Members of the Club. | | |
| Bob McCarthy - A fast and strong second-row forward McCarthy played ten Tests for Australia and five matches in two World Cups. He made the 1973 Kangaroo Tourand two tours of New Zealand. He played 211 first grade games for Souths (1963-1975 and 1978), scoring 100 tries. He played in three grand final victories (1967, 1970 and 1971) and in two losing grand finals (1965 and 1969). | | Clive Churchill - The legendary Rabbitoh revolutionised fullback play from the steadfast role of his era. He was small in physique but casts a shadow over all before and after him in the game. None can be compared for courage, tackling skill, positional play and attacking brilliance. As a schoolboy he was predicted for Rugby League greatness - by the end of his career he had achieved even more and became known as the "Little Master". | | Eric Simms - In the 1968 Rugby League World Cup, Simms gained the distinction of becoming the fourth Aboriginal to represent Australia in rugby league. He scored 50 points in four games at the 1968 World Cup, a record which still stands today. He played in the 1970 World Cup in England two years later and scored 37 points in total.
Simms was one of the game's greatest exponents of the field goal. He holds the record for the most number of field goals in one season (1969, with 19) and most in a single match (1970, with 5). It has been suggested that his proficiencies at field goals partly led to the decision to change the value of a field goal from two to one point in 1971. | | John Sattler - Being injured during the 1970 Grand Final he was not selected as captain for the Australian touring side announced later that night for the tour of New Zealand. However he had previously been selected in Australia's tour of Britain and France in 1967 and in the Australian teams which toured New Zealand in 1969 and 1971, in which he was selected as captain. He only managed to play in four tests for Australia, captaining his nation in three out of those four games. |
