National Rugby League boss David Gallop has called on the Melbourne Storm to apologise for its criticism of the judiciary as soon as possible.

The NRL has already fined the Storm $50,000 for what it has described as an extraordinary attack on the integrity of the game and its judiciary.

Storm coach Craig Bellamy used his press conference after Friday night's preliminary final win against Cronulla to criticise the handling of Cam Smith's suspension for a grapple tackle.

Club chief executive Brian Waldron also criticised the handling of the case.

Judiciary members are reportedly considering legal action against the Storm, but Gallop says he hopes it will not come to that.

"We're waiting to get some further advice about their next step but of course we'd all like to avoid litigation," he said.

"I don't think there's necessarily a deadline but obviously the sooner this type of thing is done it lessens the impact of having those allegations out there."

A defiant Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy has touched down in Sydney ahead of Sunday's NRL grand final refusing to apologise for last week's stunning attack on the integrity of the game's judiciary system.

The Storm arrived in Sydney on Wednesday afternoon where they will set up camp ahead of their grand final rematch with Manly, but it was obvious Bellamy's anger had not subsided during his four days back in Melbourne.

Bellamy and Storm chief executive Brian Waldron have been threatened with legal action by members of the judiciary panel which handed down the two-match ban to Melbourne skipper Cameron Smith, the ban ruling the Test captain out of Sunday's decider.

I Don't understand what Cameron Smith is Whining about being a Scapegoat and the NRL picking on Melbourne during the finals etc.- How did Brett White Survive not being charged. Surely if he had knocked out Ben Ross with a deliberate elbow to the head during the seasons rounds he would have been suspended for 6-10 weeks. Doesnt the act of taking out one of the opposiitions key players by dirty play constitute a send off offence or were they all too scared to act after the Cameron Smith blow up! Not really interested in result this weekend but am keenly waiting to bring on the World Cup.

Assistant coach Robbie Kearns says Melbourne has not been affected by the off-field controversy that has marred the build-up to Sunday's NRL grand final against Manly.

NRL judiciary members are preparing to sue Storm coach Craig Bellamy and chief executive Brian Waldron for comments concerning the suspension of Cam Smith.

Kearns says Bellamy has told the team to ignore the dispute and focus on the match.

"We seem to be the bad boys of the NRL at the moment," Kearns said.
