The Mitsubishi Electric Bulldogs have today unleashed another current Australian Schoolboy into NRL first grade with Jamal Idris being named to make his debut against Parramatta this Saturday night as part of the ANZ double header.
Idris, 18, has enjoyed a meteoric rise to rugby league stardom after signing with the Bulldogs for season 2008 and beginning the year in SG Ball (U18), then progressing through the grades with some powerful performances and outstanding tries in a remarkable debut season.
Prior to this season Idris’s sporting focus has been centred on Athletics, where he was a world ranked junior in both javelin and shot putt, rugby league was basically played to have fun with his mates.
What a way to enjoy your mates company by representing your school and country in the Australian Schoolboys, assisting your club’s inaugural Toyota Cup side into the finals series and then being selected to add some extra size and speed to first grade for the annual “Bandaged Bear Cup “ clash with Parramatta this Saturday night.
In further team news, point scoring wizard Hazem El Masri has been moved to fullback with young gun Ben Barba returning to the Toyota Cup team, whilst experienced centre Darryl Millard will make way for Idris. Frank Winterstein has been named on the bench for his second appearance in the top grade, with head coach Steve Folkes naming four forwards on the interchange bench.
