MELBOURNE TO GET ASCOT RACING’S ROYAL TREATMENT
Australia’s 1st Midnight Racing Event comes to Crown, Melbourne
Royal Ascot, the most famous race meeting in the world, will come alive at Crown for what is Australia’s first ever midnight racing function.
On Saturday 21 June, punters, fashionistas and racing’s social set will gather at Crown’s Studio 3 for what has been described as one of the most innovative racing event concepts in years.
Studio 3 will be transformed into a race day venue complete with live Sky Racing coverage of the last day of the famed Royal Ascot race meeting featuring the Group 1 Golden Jubilee Stakes where Australia’s own Takeover Target will attempt to go one better than last year’s second place.
Tabcorp today announced that full TAB facilities would be available at the event to allow punters the opportunity to bet on all 6 races on the Royal Ascot card, commencing with Race 1 at 11.30pm and concluding with Race 6 at 2.30am on Sunday 22 June.
Tabcorp’s General Manager International Wagering, Brett Gorman today said: “Tabcorp is proud to be a founding Gold Sponsor of the Midnight @ Royal Ascot event, which is truly one of the most refreshing and innovative racing events we have seen in some time.”
“Australia’s interest in the Royal Ascot race meeting has grown ever since Choisir won both the King’s Stand Stakes and Golden Jubilee in 2003. Takeover Target’s win in the King’s Stand Stakes in 2006 and last year’s assault on the meeting by Miss Andretti, Takeover Target, Magnus and Bentley Biscuit, has really raised the level of awareness of Royal Ascot racing,” said Gorman.
Event organisers are promising a non-stop night of entertainment with live music on stage from 9pm, a team of expert tipsters who will preview each race and provide punters with some assistance in picking winners, plus a Best Dressed Female and Male competition on the night.
Fantastic door prizes include 4 tickets to the 2009 Royal Ascot race meeting and a $1,000 TAB betting voucher.
Midnight @ Royal Ascot even delivers a little ‘class distinction’ with the event boasting a VIP invitational dinner to be co-hosted by Jane Ferguson, sister of Sarah, Duchess of York and Crown’s own Anne Peacock.
The dinner will be preceded by a champagne reception at around 8.15pm and includes a superb 3-course dinner prepared by Crown’s own Executive Chef Oliver Von Brunn with sparkling and wines being provided by another event sponsor, the Yalumba Wine Company.
“Yalumba are thrilled to be involved with Midnight @ Royal Ascot. The event fits well with both our customers and our own marketing campaign to Talk, Eat, live, laugh and Share Yalumba. We’re looking forward to a terrific night and hopefully backing a few winners,” said Yalumba’s Peter Sawrey.
Event organisers reported a sell-out of the initial 70 dinner seats but have released an extra 60 seats to the dinner to cope with demand.
General attendees to the event also get the ‘royal’ treatment with a champagne reception and non-stop canapés served throughout the marathon night. Food stations will also be available in the room to help keep guests well fed with a fully inclusive beverage package of sparkling, beer, wine and soft drink from arrival until close included in the ticket price.
“Melbourne really needs an annual racing event in June when the racing industry is basically in hibernation,” said event organizer Mark Scaife.
“The idea that you can dress up in your race day finery and attend a racing event in luxurious surroundings developed because I and a few friends were tired of sitting at home on the couch in the dark watching the Ascot races on television,” said Scaife. _________________
