Weekend Hussler has been posted as a $1.70 favourite for the Turnbull Stakes with Sportingbet Australia, despite drawing the outside barrier.
Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said Weekend Hussler was still the one to beat and he expected huge support for him from punters.
“Obviously you don’t want to draw the outside gate, but it’s not the end of the world for a horse like The Hussler,” Sullivan said.
“One of the reasons he has such a devastating strike rate is his ability to adapt and run pretty well anywhere in the field.”
“He can go up on the pace and try and take a position up back in the field and it shouldn’t affect his chances as long as he gets cover.”
“He is going to take a power of beating even with the outside draw and I think we will see punters come for him in a huge way again this week.”
Sullivan said the obvious dangers look to be Pompeii Ruler ($8.00), Tuesday Joy ($8.50) and Maldivian ($10).
“Pompeii Ruler looked to have Weekend Hussler covered in the Underwood but ran out of steam at the end. He will be a lot better with that run under the belt,” Sullivan said.
“Tuesday Joy’s win last start was terrific and she has the major plus of Darren Beadman returning from Hong Kong to ride her which cannot be underestimated.”
