Collingwood defender Heath Shaw has been charged by Victorian police with drink driving after he crashed his black Holden Ute into two parked cars in the Melbourne Suburb of Hawthorn last night.

The Magpie defender, who was drinking at the Geebung Hotel in Hawthorn with friends ,left the hotel just before 11.30pm. It was reported that he was accompanied by an unnamed Collingwood Player when his car slid out of control and hit parked cars in Wrixton Street, Hawthorn. The Magpie was later charged with drink driving when he recorded a blood alcohol level three times over the legal limit at 1.44.

Shaw has made a public apology and said he is embarrassed and sorry for the incident, but a very angry president Eddie Maguire said enough is enough: “We are sick and tired of it and from now on anyone at the Collingwood Football Club will be made accountable for their actions.”

The club has decided not to suspend Shaw but to fine him and he will take his place in the side this week against St.Kilda.

Collingwood captain Scott Burns also did not mince his words by saying that he and the rest of the Collingwood leadership group are very angry and want Shaw to play so he can face the anger of supporters in this week’s game at the MCG which is expected to attract a crowd of 70,000 people.

It remains to be seen how Shaw's presence will affect the Magpies this weekend. Punters considering an AFL bet may consider him to be a liability and side with Saints this time.
