Two years ago it was Champion filly Miss Finland (Redoute’s Choice x Forest Pearl (USA), by Woodman) who saluted for her sire in the G1 VRC Oaks (2500m). Yesterday it was her successor – Champion 3YO Filly Elect Samantha Miss (Redoute’s Choice x Milliyet (NZ) by Zabeel) who assumed the crown, with Redoute’s Choice also providing the third placed Allez Wonder (x Luna Tudor, by Military Plume (NZ)).
Today’s outcome not only added further Group One glory to the Champion Sire’s record sheet but served to underline the definite ‘nick’ developing between Redoute’s Choice and Sir Tristram-line mares.
From five crops of racing age Redoute’s Choice has already sired 14 individual Group 1 winners and 45 stakeswinners (11.8% stakeswinners to starters). However, when mated to Sir Tristram line mares, the Champion sire has left an incredible 11 stakeswinners for a 26.8% stakeswinners to starters ratio.
Redoute’s Choice has enjoyed an excellent start to the 2008/09 season. Samantha Miss’ success today added to her 4-race cleansweep of the 2008 Princess Series and she became the first filly since Slight Chance in 1992 to complete the G1 Flight Stakes-VRC Oaks double. The Oaks win gave the 3YO her fifth Group success this preparation (the filly also finishing a credible 3rd in the G1 Cox Plate last start). Gallica (x Swing Queen (USA), by Kingmambo (USA)) won the G1 MRC Thousand Guineas (1600m), Musket (x Tugela (USA), by Riverman) the G2 STC Shannon S. (1500m), Dr Doute’s (x No Limit, by Dr. Grace (NZ)) the G3 VRC Carbine Club S. (1600m), Viennese (x Snippets’ Lass, by Snippets) the Listed MRC Quezette S. (1100m), Come Hither (x Hanky Panky, by Anabaa (USA)) the Listed MRC Debutants S. (1000m), with graded stakesplacegetters including Drumbeats (x Delicate Choice, by Last Tycoon (IRE)), Estee (x Tycoon Lil, by Last Tycoon (IRE)), Red Lord (x Dame Cath (NZ), by Zabeel), Stalingrad (x Sakhalin (USA), by Kingmambo), and Time Thief (x Procrastinate, by Jade Hunter (USA)).
“Redoute’s Choice has yet again shown his versatility as a sire,” says Arrowfield Chairman John Messara. “From Golden Slipper winners to Classic winners, Redoute’s Choice remains a consistent producer of top line horses. The Sir Tristram ‘nick’ evidenced in a number of his stakeswinning progeny will also be useful feedback for breeders looking to capitalise on his strengths.” _________________
