Manny Ramirez has reportedly been offered a deal by the Los Angeles Dodgers that would make him the second highest paid baseball player in the game. While details of the deal have not been released it has been reported that he was offered a two or three year deal worth $25 million per season.
Only New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez would earn more, pulling in an average of $27.5 million per season.
Ramirez is coming off an eight year deal he signed with the Boston Red Sox in 2001 worth $160 million. The 36-year-old slugger was traded to the Dodgers late last year and hit .396 with 17 HRs and 53 RBIs over the final 53 regular season games. Los Angeles captured the National League West title and earned a trip to the postseason where Ramirez hit .520 with 4 HRs and 10 RBIs in eight games.
It remains unclear whether Ramirez will take the offer; he has said he was looking for a six year deal. _________________
