Tendulkar out of Second Test

Cricket
Batting star Sachin Tendulkar has been ruled out of the second Test between India and South Africa in Ahmedabad.

He was unable to field on the final day of the first game at Chennai after aggravating a groin injury suffered in Australia earlier this year.

Tendulkar only needs 172 runs to become the highest scorer in Test history.

But the selectors have decided not to risk him for the second Test, which starts on Thursday, and have called Mohammed Kaif into the squad. .

Kaif, 27, made the last of his 13 Test appearances in the Caribbean in June 2006 but has earned a recall by scoring 687 runs at an average of 57 in the domestic Ranji Trophy.

He will compete with Yuvraj Singh for a place in India's XI for the game, with the series still level at 0-0 after the first Test ended in a high-scoring draw.

India skipper Anil Kumble sat out the final two sessions of the game because of what he described as a "slight niggle when bowling" but he is confident of recovering in time to lead the team on Thursday.

India squad: Wasim Jaffer, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Mohammed Kaif, Sourav Ganguly, Vangipurappu Laxman, Yuvraj Singh, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wicketkeeper), Irfan Pathan, Anil Kumble (captain), Harbhajan Singh, Murali Kartik, Shanthakumaran Sreesanth, Rudra Pratap Singh.
