Tennis Pratt beat compatriot Casey Dellacqua, the 22-year-old qualifier from Perth, in the first round 6-3 6-4 to set up her meeting with Czech No.14 seed Nicole Vaidisova.

Serena Williams was pushed hard by Alicia Molik but won 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 to reach the third round of Wimbledon.

Australian No.27 seed Samantha Stosur also exited in the second round when she was upset by unseeded Venezuelan Milagros Sequera 6-2 5-7 6-4.

French Open champion Justine Henin enjoyed a swift 60-minute workout to overcome Russia's Vera Dushevina 6-0 6-4 in the second round.

Serbian third seed Jelena Jankovic had an even easier passage into the third round, beating Czech Jarmila Gajdosova 6-1 6-1.

Martina Hingis faced little resistance as she booked her place in the third round with a comfortable 6-1 6-2 win over Japan's Aiko Nakamura.
 
French Open finalist Ana Ivanovic took her place in round two with a 6-0 7-5 (7-3) win over Hungary's Melinda Czink.

Also in the second round is Czech 14th seed Nicole Vaidisova, who beat Karin Knapp 7-6 (8-6) 6-2. Her Italian opponent hit seven aces but five double faults.

Russian 12th seed Elena Dementieva reached the second round by beating France's Nathalie Dechy but was made to work hard in the second set of her 6-2 7-6 (9-7) win.

Meanwhile in the Mens.

Two-time Wimbledon runner-up Andy Roddick saw off Thailand's Danai Udomchoke 6-3 6-4 7-6 (7-3) to make the third round of this year's tournament.

Top seed Roger Federer was 6-2 7-5 2-0 up on Juan Martin Del Potro before rain stopped play in their Court 1 clash.

Fifth seed Fernando Gonzalez had to come from a set down before beating Alejandro Falla of Colombia.

The Chilean dropped the first set but fought back for a 4-6 6-3 6-4 7-6 (7-1) win and will now play Serbian Janko Tipsarevic.

Twelfth seed Richard Gasquet ended the hopes of fellow Frenchman Nicolas Mahut in straight sets.

Mahut has been one of the surprises of the 2007 grass season after reaching the final at Queen's, but Gasquet beat the Wimbledon qualifier 6-4 6-3 6-4.

All the Australian men in the singles draw will be in second-round action on Thursday night (AEST).


No.16 seed Lleyton Hewitt takes on Italy's Simone Bolelli, while Chris Guccione faces Russian sixth seed Nikolay Davydenko and qualifier Wayne Arthurs meets No.11 seed Tommy Robredo of Spain.
