World Cup 2010 European Qualifier Group Seven

Football Saturday’s play in Group Seven World Cup European qualifying action did little to clear the picture as Serbia shot to the top with a win over Lithuania and both countries are now carrying six points while France and Romania played to a draw and now have four points apiece and Austria now sits on four after drawing with Faroe Islands.

Serbia made a statement on Saturday as they blanked Lithuania 3-0, an obvious sign that they had put their loss to France behind them. With the win Serbia and Lithuania are each carrying six points but Serbia has the edge on point differential.

France dug themselves into a deep hole early in their match with Romania but they overcame their 2-0 deficit to put a pair of goals in the net to earn a draw 2-2 and each side came away with a point. France was looking to build off a win over Serbia while Romania was looking to do the same after dropping Faroe Islands.

Austria looked like they could really make a move in Group Seven play on Saturday but could only manage a draw against Faroe Islands and are now in the middle of the pack fighting for a trip to South Africa.
