Bathurst 1000

Motor Racing Defending V8 Supercar Championship winner Garth Tander and five-time Bathurst champion Mark Skaife will start Sunday's Bathurst 1000 from pole after securing the fastest lap time in top-10 shootout.

Tander, the current series leader from Mark Winterbottom and Jamie Whincup, recorded the fastest time around the Mount Panorama circuit with a blistering 2 minutes and 7.2963 seconds in his Holden.

Ford duo Winterbottom and Steven Richards, who set the fastest time in qualifying on Friday, will line up alongside Tander at the front of the grid after posting a time .1243 of a second slower to wrap up second.

In the second row, Ford drivers James Courtney and David Besnard will start next to Holden's Paul Dumbrell and Rick Kelly in the 161-lap race.

Ford's Whincup and Craig Lowndes, who are shooting for a third straight Bathurst crown, round out the top five after posting a fastest time of 2:07.9513, more than half a second outside Tander's mark.
