Radisich breaks ankle in Bathurst crash

Motor Racing Paul Radisich has broken his ankle in a crash during final practice for the Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama.

The New Zealand driver ran into a sand trip and made heavy contact with a safety barrier, severely fracturing his right ankle in the process.

The HSV Dealer Team now faces a tough ask to repair his car in time for this afternoon's top 10 shootout.

Mark Winterbottom set the pace yesterday, edging out Holden's Jason Richards by four hundredths of a second in qualifying.

"It was good to do it right at the end," Winterbottom said in a statement.

"It was quite hard to do because we only got one lap at it.

"It's great to get pole and finish with a good result. We made some real gains throughout the session.

"This place, you have to respect it. The first time you go out it scares the living daylights out of you and as you settle in to it, you get quicker and quicker."
