Vikings Defeat Saints

NFL The Minnesota Vikings (2-3) forged a fourth-quarter comeback to defeat the New Orleans Saints (2-3), 30-27, on Monday Night Football.

In the first quarter, Antoine Winfield returned a blocked field goal 59 yards for a touchdown. It was the first one for the Vikings in the regular season and first time since the 1976 postseason.

After leading in the first half 20-10, the Saints scored 17 unanswered points. Reggie Bush tied an NFL record by scoring touchdowns on two punt returns in the same game (71 yards, 64 yards) during that span. Bush became the 12th player in NFL history to do so.

With seven minutes left in the fourth quarter, Gus Frerotte found Bernard Berrian for a 33-yard touchdown pass, which he kept possession of despite hitting his own teammate in the end zone.

Ryan Longwell then won the game with a 30-yard field goal with 13 seconds left.

Bush ended the game with just 29 rushing yards, but set a Saints single-game record with 176 return yards. He also caught seven passes for 64 yards, giving him 269 all-purpose yards. Drew Brees completed 26-of-46 for 330 yards, one TD and two INTs. Devery Henderson caught four passes for 104 yards.

Vikings star Adrian Peterson was stopped by the Saints defense, carrying the ball 21 times for 32 yards. Gus Frerotte made 19-of-36 passes for 222 yards for a touchdown. Berrian caught six passes for 110 yards.
