Tampa Bay Rays Move on to ALCS with Game Four Win

MLB B.J. Upton went 2-4 with a pair of solo homeruns, Carlos Pena was 3-4 with two RBIs and Andy Sonnanstine threw 5 2/3 innings allowing two runs on just three hits as the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Chicago Cubs 6-2 in Game Four of their ALDS to win the best-of-five series and advance to the ALCS where they will face the winner of the Boston Red Sox – Los Angeles Angels series.

Upton provided the first two runs of the game for the Rays as he hit solo shots off White Sox starter Gavin Floyd in the first and third innings for an early 2-0 lead.

That lead was extended to 4-0 in the top of the fourth as Cliff Floyd doubled home Carl Crawford and Dioner Navarro followed with a single to plate Floyd. Chicago managed to get on the board in the bottom of the fourth as Paul Konerko homered off Sonnanstine but the Rays answered with a single run in the top of the fifth when Pena singled home Akinori Iwamura for a 5-1 lead.

Sonnanstine then worked into the sixth but after getting two outs he gave up a long homerun to Jermaine Dye and J.P Howell was called in to finish off the inning. Once again the Rays answered the White Sox run with a run of their own as Pena collected his second RBI of the game when he scored Jason Bartlett with a single.

Howell returned to the mound in the seventh and got through the frame without any damage. Grant Balfour came on to work the eight and allowed a two-out walk but struck out Dye to end the inning. He was back on the hill in the bottom of the ninth and punched the Rays ticket to the ALCS after striking out Ken Griffey Jr. to end the game.
