Stoner on Pole

Motor Racing Australia's Casey Stoner snatched pole position on his last lap during Saturday afternoon's qualifying round for Sunday's Australian MotoGP at Phillip Island in Victoria.

Stoner set a New record lap time on his Ducati of one minute and 28.665 seconds to pip Yamaha's Spanish racer Jorge Lorenzo by 0.069 seconds to take the pole inside the front row of the grid.

Valentino Rossi came off his Yamaha heavily late in the qualifying session and was 12th fastest overall with 1:30.014, but he completed the session.

Honda's Nicky Hayden was third fastest with 1:28.756 with Frenchman Randy De Puniet was fourth quickest on his Honda with 1:28.808.
