Japan applied to host 2015/2019 RWC

Rugby Union JRFU announced today that it has sent a letter of intent to the IRB confirming Japan's interest to tender for both RWC 2015 and 2019.

By submitting an Intention to Tender for both RWC 2015 and 2019, Japan maintains the possibility of bidding for both or either tournament in its final tender to the IRB next year.

 "We are bidding to host the RWC not just for Japan but for Asia," Said Nobby Mashimo, Chairman of the JRFU.

"Bringing the Rugby World Cup to Japan and Asia will unlock the potential of rugby as a truly global sport," added Mashimo. "It will not only bring rugby closer to the Asian community, but will foster the growth of the sport worldwide and spread the rugby spirit of teamwork and respect."
