Talkin Sport - Not A Single Doubt

Freshman sire Not A Single Doubt (Redoute's Choice - Singles Bar, by Rory's Jester) launched his stallion career in spectacular fashion on Saturday when his first ever starter Regal Flame (NZ) (ex Marina Miss, by Grand Lodge (USA)) saluted in emphatic style in the season's first 2YO race in Australasia.

Regal Flame won the Ford 2YO (800m) at Wanganui in New Zealand by a widening seven lengths - not an easy task over such a short distance. This scintillating display bought accolades from a variety of commentators with the 2YO's dominating racing style variously described as "effortless", "blistering", and "rac[ing] away from his rivals as though they were tied to the rail."

The win of Regal Flame - the first starter for a sire son of Redoute's Choice, could well mark the beginning of a Redoute's Choice dynasty. This has certainly been predicted in the sales ring with the Champion Stallion's better colts in high demand for their residual value. Not A Single Doubt has the distinction of being Redoute's Choice's first stakeswinning son to retire to stud. However, Redoute's Choice is already well represented by many other sons at stud, including Snitzel, Stratum, and Nadeem.

As a racehorse, Not A Single Doubt was held in high esteem by his trainers during his short career of 10 starts and was generally regarded as a G1 winner in waiting. Not A Single Doubt showed speed and precocity winning his first three starts as a juvenile including the Listed Canonbury Stakes (1000m) before running 0.8 length second to Dance Hero in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic RL (1200m). On that occasion, both subsequent Champion 2YO Dance Hero and Not A Single Doubt bettered the race record.

An injury in the G2 Todman Stakes (1200m) cut short Not A Single Doubt's 2YO program but Dance Hero's subsequent feats in winning the Sydney 2YO Triple Crown certainly franked Not A Single Doubt's Magic Millions performance. Not A Single Doubt returned as a 3YO to win the Listed Zeditave Stakes (1200m) and finish a half length second in the G3 Schweppes Cup (1400m).
