Serena Williams Knocks Off Venus Williams

Tennis Serena Williams now has bragging rights when it comes to her battles with sister Venus Williams after winning a dramatic 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (9-7) battle on Wednesday night to advance to the 2008 U.S. Open semifinals and take a 9-8 edge in their head-to-head matchups.

Serena showed some serious resolve in the match as she fought her way back from 3-5 deficits in each set, facing set point in each of those frames but in the end it was her ability to avoid mistakes when it mattered most as she committed 24 unforced errors on the night compared to the 36 committed by Venus.

Serena is seeking her third U.S. Open title and her ninth Grand Slam singles title. She has a career Grand Slam having captured titles at the French Open, Wimbledon and the Australian Open as well the U.S. Open.
