LEADING FIRST SEASON SIRE: FASTNET ROCK SET TO DOMINATE

Racing Oakleigh and Lightning Stakes winner Fastnet Rock has been installed as Sportingbet Australia’s shortest ever priced favourite ($1.35) to be Leading First Season Sire for 2008/09.

Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said Fastnet Rock looks set to follow in the footsteps of last season’s well backed favourite Exceed and Excel who dominated his rivals.

“Fastnet Rock produced the most foals and they averaged $250,000 at the major sales,” Sullivan said.

“You’d have to think there’ll be some cracking types amongst them.”

Sullivan said that this was the third year that Sportingbet Australia had bet on the First Season Sires.

“Our punters love betting on this market and we’re happy to accommodate them,” said Sullivan.

“It adds tremendous interest to the two year old races throughout the season.”

The main competition for Fastnet Rock is expected to come from Al Maher ($4.60).
