U.S. Men Cruise to Gold Medal in 4 x 400m Relay

Track & Field For all of its disappointments on the track at the 2008 Beijing Olympics the United States grabbed some satisfaction on Saturday as the men’s 4 x 400m relay team crushed the field and took the gold medal with an Olympic record-setting time.

Angelo Taylor, Jeremy Wariner, Lashawn Merritt and David Neville completed the sprint in a blistering 2:55.39 to set the new Olympic standard, nearly a full three seconds ahead of the silver medal squad of Christopher Brown, Michael Mathieu, Andretti Bain and Andrae Williams of the Bahamas who finished in 2:58.03.

The Russian team comprised of Denis Alexeev, Maksim Dyldin, Vladislav Frolov and Anton Kokorin narrowly missed the silver and had to settle for bronze with a time of 2:58.06.
