2008 Beijing Olympics Results: Men’s Football

Football Men’s football took center stage at the 2008 Beijing Olympics on Sunday with a full schedule of matches as country’s try to position themselves for a bid into the next round and the ultimate goal of capturing Olympic gold.

In Group A play Argentina improved to 2-0 with a 1-0 win over Australia while Ivory Coast lookd impressive with a 4-2 win over Serbia. Argentina has secured a spot in the second round while Ivory Coast is holding on to the number two spot in group play.

In Group B play the United States and Netherlands played to a 2-2 draw, leaving the Americans with a 1-0-1 record and giving the Dutch their second draw of their Olympics. Nigeria managed to hand Japan their second defeat 2-1 to climb into a tie with the U.S. atop group play.

In Group C play Brazil looked completely comfortable against New Zealand as they handed the Kiwis a 5-0 drubbing to secure a second round ticket. Belgium scored a big 2-1 win over China to position themselves nicely for a second round birth.

In Group D play Italy had no trouble scoring a 3-0 victory over South Korea to improve to 2-0 while Cameroon beat Honduras 1-0 and now control their destiny.
