Antonio Margarito Stops Miguel Cotto in 11th Round

Boxing Antonio Margarito, the Tijuana Tornado, lived up to his name on Saturday night as he punished Puerto Rico’s Miguel Cotto at the MGM Grand Garden to claim the WBA welterweight title.

Margarito knocked Cotto to the canvas on two occasions, the final knockdown ending the fight in the 11th round.

While Cotto appeared to control the flow in the early rounds he was unable to slow the pursuit of Margarito who took the punishment and then began delivering his own in the middle rounds.

By the 11th round Cotto was bloodied and 80 seconds into the round he was on one knee after a series of blows from Margarito. After getting back to his feet Cotto attempted to keep his distance from Margarito but with just under a minute left in the round the Mexican caught him with another series for the last time.

With the win Margarito improved to 37-5, 27 KOs while the loss dropped Cotto to 32-1.
