Tyson Gay ran the fastest-time ever in the 100 meters during the 2008 U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials on Sunday. However, because it was wind-aided, his time was docked.

Gay ran the 100 meters in 9.68 seconds, the world's fastest time in history. However, due to the winds, his time stood at 9.86 nonaided time, the third-fastest of all-time and the American record. During a heat on Saturday, Gay ran a 9.77.

Gay, the U.S. record-holder, will face stiff competition by Jamaica's Usain Bolt, who beat Gay last month in New York with a world-record run of 9.72.

Gay will compete in next weekend's 200-meter trials, an event in which he is the world champion.

In the 100-meter finals, Walter Dix, the 2007 NCAA champion from Florida State, overtook Darvis Patton for second place. Dix clocked 9.80 and Patton 9.84, as each of the first six finalists turned in times under 10 seconds.

Dix and Patton will join Gay on the 100-meter track and field team that will represent the United States in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
