Premier League Tips - Saturday 31st March

Football ozmattuk writes "I’m back!!

I hope you’re not disappointed. I know someone who will be glad the international week is over and that is England manager Steve McClaren. No doubt he’s happy having the spotlight back on the domestic front!!

The big game this weekend is no doubt Liverpool v Arsenal @ 12:45 (GMT Daylight time).

This is the fourth meeting between the two best teams outside the top two. The reverse fixture was won 3-0 by Arsenal at the Emirates and the Gunners also won 3-1 in the FA Cup and 6-3 in the League Cup, with the latter two both being at Anfield. The Arsenal is looking to win three times in a row at Liverpool for the first time in over twenty years, but I wouldn’t read too much into the most recent score lines. I was there for the FA Cup game and I know I’m a Reds fan but how Liverpool didn’t get anything out of that game is still a puzzle to me. Maybe the answer is Thierry Henry. However he is out for the season and Steven Gerrard is finding his form at the end of the season. His two brilliant goals for England in midweek are maybe signs of what will come. Liverpool need to win to have a chance of beating Arsenal to finishing in third place. Liverpool 1-0.

Another huge game is at the other end of the table between Charlton and Wigan @ 3pm.

If ever was a time for Charlton to win a game it is now. A few weeks back they had no hope of staying up, now all of a sudden especially if they beat Wigan, you’d have to fancy them to be safe. A bit of a six-pointer this one as a Wigan win would take them to nine points away from relegation, whereas a home win will take only leave Wigan three points ahead. Wigan are without a loss in four but I think the home crowd will be right behind the Addicks and Charlton will get the points.

Lastly for this weekend, West Ham v Middlesbrough @ 3pm.

Another must win game for the Hammers and surely if they don’t win, the uphill task that is already in front of them will be almost too steep to climb. The pressure will increase if Boro can contain the home side and the longer the game goes on without a goal, the Upton Park faithful will surely start to get restless and you’d have to think Mark Viduka and Company will nick it. For me I’m almost willing West Ham to win and I’ll go with the home side led by Lucas Neill to get the bacon.

Lastly, I’d like to finish by saying “Well Done Mate” to Scott McDonald, who currently plays for Motherwell in the Scottish Premier League and the Socceroos. Scott has signed a pre-contract agreement with the Scottish giants Celtic."
