| IOC Statement in the case of Ms Fani Chalkia |
| |
The Disciplinary Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has reached a decision in the case of an anti-doping rule violation committed by Ms Fani Chalkia.
Samples provided by Ms Chalkia on the 10th August in *****ui, Japan during a pre-competition doping control test, proved positive for the banned substance Methyltrienolone; a steroid with potentially serious effects on health.
The IOC’s Medical Director, Dr Patrick Schamasch, was informed of the positive result on 16th August. At the athlete’s request the ‘B’ sample was tested on 17th August. Later that day this sample also proved positive for the same banned substance. The Greek NOC consequently suspended Ms Chalkia and she left the Olympic Village.

Women’s 100m Dominated by Jamaica as Shelly-Ann Fraser Takes Gold
Jamaica solidified itself as the producers of the world’s fastest athletes as Shelly-Ann Fraser duplicated fellow countryman Usain Bolt’s achievement and claimed gold in the 100m at the 2008 Beijing Olympics on Sunday.
Bolt claimed the men’s title on Saturday in a blistering time of 9.69 but on Sunday all three top spots were claimed by Jamaicans as Fraser clocked a 10.78 for the gold while Kerron Stewart and Sherone Simpson each finished in 10.98 for a rare double-silver.
With Bolt’s win and now Fraser claiming gold in the same event it is the first time since 1912 that a country won both the men’s and women’s 100m.
