| Clinton Portis and Jason Campbell Lead Washington Redskins |

Jason Campbell was 23/28 passing for 328 yards and a touchdown, Clinton Portis rushed for 126 yards, Santana Moss had 140 yards receiving and a TD and the Washington Redskins (6-2) defense held the Detroit Lions (0-7) to just 274 yards of total offense in a 25-17 win on Sunday.
Detroit actually had a 10-6 lead at the half after Rudi Johnson scored on an 11-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter and Jason Hanson booted a 43-yard field goal but things changed in the second half.

| Peca has suspension reduced from 10 to five games |

Blue Jackets center Michael Peca's suspension for making contact with an official was cut to five games by the NHL on Friday.
Peca, who met with NHL officials on Thursday, was suspended for confronting an official after he thought he'd been slew-footed in the Blue Jackets' Oct. 10 season-opener at Dallas -- subsequently grabbing the official's arm to argue his case.

| New York Rangers Alexei Cherepanov Collapses on Bench, Dies |
| |
New York Rangers top prospect Alexei Cherepanov collapsed on his team’s bench during the third period of a Monday night game in Russia and was later pronounced dead. Cherepanov was 19.
Cherepanov was playing for the Avangard Omsk when he collapsed and stopped breathing. He had been the Rangers’ first-round pick in the 2007 NHL draft and was considered one of the organization’s most highly regarded prospects.

| NHL Back on the Ice as Four Games on Schedule for Thursday |

The NHL will kick off the 2008-09 season in full on Thursday following the games between the New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning in Prague, Czech Republic and the Pittsburgh Penguins and Ottawa Senators in Stockholm, Sweden.
Toronto at Detroit 7:00 p.m. ET
The Toronto Maple Leafs will open their season on the road as the face the Detroit Red Wings. Toronto is coming off a disappointing 2007-08 campaign in which they missed the playoffs while Detroit not only posted the best record in the NHL, they captured their 11th Stanley Cup as well.
