| A1GP Powered by Ferrari car passes crash test |
| |
| A1GP World Cup of Motorsport has always prided itself in the fact that its cars are some of the safest on the world’s race tracks. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that the season four A1GP Powered by Ferrari car has undergone and passed some of the most stringent crash tests possible.
The car firstly underwent FIA chassis squeeze tests, as opposed to a sudden impact test, with pressure applied to key parts of the car to ensure the necessary strength. Following this there have been roll-hoop load tests, front and rear impact and side impact tests.

| A1GP CHANGES THE SPRINT RACE AND POINTS |
| |
The pressure will be even greater for the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport national teams when they go to Mugello, Italy for the start of season four in September. An extra mandatory pit stop is among the changes to the series' Sporting Regulations planned to make the racing even more exciting with the extra stop having to be taken in the A1GP Sprint Race between laps four and eight.
"We never stop looking for ways of improving the action on the track. The two pit stops in the Feature Race have proved to be the really high pressure points of the events. We felt an additional one would not only add another variable into the Sprint Race mix, but also give the crews another opportunity to display their team work. When we sat down to discuss ways of improving the series from every viewpoint this was a popular addition. However, we have also made other changes that will give the teams greater flexibility in certain areas," said Tony Teixeira, A1GP Chairman.

| CRAIG BAIRD STARS ON HOME TRACK |
| |
Craig Baird (ACER/Leading Solutions) has made the perfect start to his Carrera Cup round at the City of Ipswich 400 at Queensland Raceway today by winning the first race of the weekend.
After qualifying on pole this morning the Gold Coast based Kiwi streaked off the line, led the field into turn one and was never headed.
The win is Baird’s third in four races and extends his Championship lead over Dean Fiore (Complispace/Advance Energy) to 234 points.
Fiore finished second in today’s race after starting from fourth on the grid, giving himself every opportunity to win the round and reduce Baird’s lead at the top.

| Stoner Wins German MotoGP |
| |
Casey Stoner rode flawlessly in the rain to blow the MotoGP championship wide open with victory in Germany.
Valentino Rossi came in second and took over the championship lead from Dani Pedrosa, who crashed out on lap four when his Honda slid under braking.
Pedrosa had built up a seven-and-a-half second lead at that point but paid for pushing the pace too much in the wet.

| BARGWANNA COMPLETES PERFECT SANDOWN WEEKEND |
| |
| Jason Bargwanna (Trivett Classic MINI Garage/Matchmaster TV Reception Systems) completed the perfect weekend in MINI CHALLENGE at Sandown International Raceway, using the wet conditions to his advantage, taking a dominant race victory by some 10.4 seconds over Neil McFadyen (M3 Motorsport).
McFadyen scorched away from the line and made a decisive move on Grant Denyer (DecoRug Motorsport) during the opening lap. The move was crucial as it secured second placing for the Sydney-sider and stemmed the growth of Denyer’s Series lead – which increased to 30 points across the weekend.

| CRAIG BAIRD MAKES IT FOUR FROM FIVE |
| |
Craig Baird (ACER/Leading Solutions) has extended his lead at the top of the Carrera Cup Australia championship ladder after taking out Round Five of the season at Sandown Raceway this afternoon.
The Kiwi racer didn’t win the final race of the afternoon – that privilege went to the Jim Richards backed David Wall (Shannons Insurance) – but his two victories in the first two races and a second in the final race saw him home.
The win makes it the fourth win from the first five rounds of the season and Baird is on track to become the first ever two-time Carrera Cup Australia champion.

| CAST OF CARRERA CUP CHALLENGERS INCREASES |
| |
For Carrera Cup Australia championship front runners Dean Fiore (Complispace/Advance Energy) and Aaron Caratti (Parklands on Bertram), Round Five at Sandown International Raceway this weekend marks a vital time in their title ambitions.
And they both know it.
While many drivers had breakthrough rounds at Barbagallo Raceway in Round Four, Fiore and Caratti – who sit second and third respectively in the Championship – saw their title ambitions slump with lower than expected finishes.
After the pair went into the Perth round with serious designs on the title, the Gold Coast’s Craig Baird (ACER/Leading Solutions) skipped away to a handy championship lead after winning the round and is on the front foot for the rest of the year.
