Robredo Wins Swedish Open
 
Tennis Spain's Tommy Robredo put in a strong performance to beat Tomas Berdych and claim the Swedish Open title for the second time in three years.

The 26-year-old won 6-4 6-1 in the clay court event in Bastad to win his seventh ATP singles title.

Rafael Nadal Knocks Off Roger Federer in Five-Set Epic
 
Tennis Rafael Nadal knocked off Roger Federer in the men’s championship at Wimbledon on Sunday in a five-set epic 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-7 (8-10), 9-7, ending Federer’s run of five straight Wimbledon titles.

Nadal remained composed throughout the match and when it came time to buckle down the Spaniard held court, surrendering is serve on just 1 of 13 break point opportunities. By minimizing his errors, just 27 unforced errors in the five hour match, he was able to overcome the 25 aces off the racket of Federer.

Venus Williams Tops Sister Serena in Straight Sets
 
Tennis Venus Williams captured her fifth Wimbledon singles title on Saturday, defeating her sister, Serena Williams, in straight sets 7-5, 6-4 on Centre Court at the All England Club.

While Venus provided Serena opportunities to take games as well as sets she buckled down on break points and allowed her sister to capitalize on just 2 of 13 chances. That, coupled with Serena’s inability to get anything done with her second serve, sealed the match.

Rafael Nadal Advances to Third Straight Final after Beating Rainer Schuettler
 
Tennis Rafael Nadal will get at least one more crack at Roger Federer in the Wimbledon finals after knocking off Rainer Schuettler in straight sets 6-1, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 at the All England Club.

Nadal maintained strong control of his service game, putting 81 percent of his first serves in play and 82 percent of those serves were winners. The Spaniard only faced two break point opportunities and lost just one of those while he broke Schuettler’s serve five times.

Roger Federer Beats Marat Safin to Advance to Finals
 
Tennis Roger Federer advanced to his sixth straight Wimbledon finals on Friday after beating Marat Safin in straight sets 6-3, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 at the All England Club.

Federer once again had great command of his service game, pounding out 14 aces while allowing Safin just two break point opportunities and fighting off both. The world’s number one tennis player committed just 14 unforced errors in the 1:40 minute match. Safin, trying to reach his first finals since 2005, committed 25 unforced errors to seal his fate.

Roger Federer and Marat Safin Meet at Centre Court Friday
 
Tennis Roger Federer is one step away from playing for his sixth straight Wimbledon singles title while his opponent, Marat Safin, is looking for his first Grand Slam victory since 2005. One of them will get the chance to move on as they meet in the Wimbledon men’s semifinals on Friday beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Federer has yet to drop a set at Wimbledon as he not only seeks his sixth straight title but his 13th career Grand Slam singles title. Federer actually beat Safin in the 2004 Australian Open finals for his second career Grand Slam singles title. The semifinals appearance marks the 17th straight Grand Slam event in which Federer has achieved that milestone, a record.

Rafael Nadal Meets Rainer Schuettler for Trip to Finals
 
Tennis Rafael Nadal is one step closer to his third straight trip to the Wimbledon finals while Rainer Schuettler is looking to reach his first Grand Slam singles final appearance since 2003. Nadal and Schuettler will each get their chance when they meet at Centre Court following the end of the Roger Federer v. Marat Safin match scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

Nadal has advanced to the last two Wimbledon finals but has yet to get over the hump, falling to Roger Federer on both occasions. He does have four career Grand Slam singles titles, all four coming from the French Open.

Rainer Schuettler Tops Arnaud Clement in Marathon Battle
 
Tennis Rainer Schuettler became the final piece in the Wimbledon men’s singles semifinals puzzle after beating Arnaud Clement in a marathon match that took two days to complete due to several rain delays. After more than five hours of actual tennis Schuettler came out on top 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (8-6), 6-7 (7-9), 8-6 and will now face Rafael Nadal in the semis.

Schuettler totaled 202 serves in the match and managed to sneak past 13 aces. He also overcame 57 unforced errors in the match by breaking Clement’s serve eight times.

Serena Williams Sets up Finals with Venus after Beating Jie Zheng
 
Tennis Serena Williams battled a resilient Jie Zheng on Thursday but came out on top 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) to advance to the Wimbledon finals where she will now meet sister Venus Williams.

Williams was just dominant in Thursday’s semifinals as she pounded out 14 aces against Zheng and limited her mistakes to just12 unforced errors. Zheng, who entered Wimbledon as a wildcard, did what she could but had no real answer to Serena’s serve. Zheng only had six unforced errors but was forced to work for every point she earned.

Venus Williams Marches on, Beats Elena Dementieva for Birth in Finals
 
Tennis Venus Williams proved once again that there was no woman more dominant on the grass surface than her after disposing of Elena Dementieva 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) on Thursday to advance to the Wimbledon finals where she will meet the winner of the Serena Williams v. Jie Zheng match.

Williams hammered out four aces in the match and captured key break points when needed to knock off the Russian. Both women appeared to have strong service games but while Williams broke Dementieva four times the American had her serve broken just once.

Rafael Nadal Pushes Past Andy Murray for Semis Spot
 
Tennis Rafael Nadal took another step towards reaching his third straight Wimbledon finals after the Spaniard handled Andy Murray in straight sets 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 on Wednesday to advance to the semifinals at the All England Club.

Nadal once again played nearly flawless tennis, relying on efficient play to get past the crowd favorite. Nadal committed just 8 unforced errors and didn’t allow Murray a single break point opportunity. Murray struggled with consistency as he committed 20 unforced errors.

Marat Safin Drops Feliciano Lopez to Advance to Semis
 
Tennis Marat Safin moved one step closer to capturing is first Grand Slam singles title since 2005 and his first ever Wimbledon championship on Wednesday after knocking of Feliciano Lopez 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 in a rain delayed match.

Safin appeared to benefit from the rain as he came out after being down a set and quickly gained control of the match. The 28-year-old hammered out 18 aces with just three double-faults and after an error filled first set he finished with 23 unforced errors. As for Lopez, things went downhill quickly as he finished with 33 unforced errors and could only take advantage of three of eight break point opportunities.

Roger Federer Back in Semis after Beating Mario Ancic in Straight Sets
 
Tennis Roger Federer has moved into the Wimbledon semifinals on Wednesday after he beat Mario Ancic in straight sets 6-1, 7-5, 6-4 at the All England Club.

Federer moved quickly through the first set and was rolling along in the second when the rains came and forced a short delay. It looked as if Ancic had regrouped a bit during the delay but Federer showed no signs of weakness as he pounded his way past the Croatian. Federer finished the match with 15 aces ad no double-faults and didn’t allow Ancic a single break point opportunity.

Jie Zheng Continues Improbable Run
 
Tennis Jie Zheng’s Cinderella run through Wimbledon lives another day as the 24-year old beat Nicole Vaidisova 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 on Tuesday to advance to her first semifinals at a Grand Slam event. In reality Tuesday’s match was Zheng’s first quarterfinals match as well.

Once again it was Zheng’s discipline that proved her greatest asset as she limited herself to 18 unforced errors while Vaidisova committed 39 unforced errors in the match. Zheng was also able to buckle down when Vaidisova had break point opportunities as she surrendered her serve just twice despite facing breakpoint ten times.

Serena Williams Breezes into Semifinals after Bruising Agnieszka Radwanska
 
Tennis Serena Williams joined sister Venus in the semifinals at Wimbledon on Tuesday after pounding Agnieszka Radwanska in straight sets 6-4, 6-0 to keep the possibility of an all-Williams finals at the All England Club.

Williams was as efficient as she could be, dominating the 51-minute match with an effective and accurate service game that kept Radwanska off balance. Williams collected 11 aces in the match and broke Radwanska’s serve on five of six opportunities.

Elena Dementieva Nearly Blows Huge Lead but Manages to Knock Off Nadia Petrova
 
Tennis Elena Dementieva became the second woman to advance into the Wimbledon semifinals on Tuesday as the Russian beat fellow countrywoman Nadia Petrova in a strange three-setter 6-1, 6-7 (6-8, 6-3. Dementieva, seeded fifth at the All England Club, is the highest ranked woman remaining at Wimbledon after Ana Ivanovic, Jelena Jankovic, Maria Sharapova and Svetlana Kuznetsova fell earlier in the Grand Slam event.

Dementieva nearly joined that list after blowing a 5-2 lead in the second set and allowing Petrova to capture the set and what appeared to be momentum but Dementieva managed to right the ship and looked strong in the third set to move on.

Venus Williams Grabs Semis Spot with Victory Over Tamarine Tanasugarn
 
Tennis Venus Williams continued to prove why she was one of the most dominant women players on grass as the four-time Wimbledon champion knocked off Tamarine Tanasugarn in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3 to become the first woman to advance to the semis this year.

Williams battled through some inconsistent play to get past Tanasugarn but her powerful serve kept her in control as she pounded out 8 aces in the match and broke Tanasugam’s serve on four of eight opportunities. In comparison Tanasugarn managed to earn just one of ten break point opportunities.

Rafael Nadal Pounds Mikhail Youzhny to Advance
 
Tennis Rafael Nadal had no trouble at the All England Club on Monday, pounding Mikhail Youzhny in staright sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the quarterfinals and draw closer to a matchup with world number one Roger Federer for the third straight year in the Wimbledon finals.

Nadal relied on efficiency throughout the match, collecting winners on 78 percent of his first serves and 62 percent on his second. The Spaniard committed 13 unforced errors and broke Youzhny’s serve six times in 16 opportunities.

Tennis Wimbledon has been a strange trip for the ladies as Svetlana Kuzntsova joined the growing list of top-seeds to bow out early after losing to Agnieszka Radwanska 4-6, 6-1, 5-7 on Monday at the All England Club.

Kuzntsova was seeded fourth and now joins top seeded Ana Ivanovic, second seeded Jelena Jancovic and third seeded Maria Sharapova on the early exit list.

Serena Williams Advances Past Bethanie Mattek in Straight Sets
 
Tennis Serena Williams needed just over an hour to get past Bethanie Mattek at Wimbledon on Monday, dropping the fellow American in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 and move past the fourth round and join older sister Venus in the quarterfinals.

Both Williams and Mattek looked sharp but it was the serve of Williams that made the difference in the match. The two-time Wimbledon champ fired off six aces and didn’t commit a single double fault. Williams managed to protect her serve as well, denying Mattek her only break point opportunity.
