Injured Knights Five-Eighth, Jarrod Mullen will undergo reconstructive surgery on his left shoulder and will spend the remainder of the 2007 season on the sideline.

Mullen saw leading specialist, Dr Bokor in Sydney this morning, revealing sufficient damage to require surgery.

“I’ve weighed up the advice and surgery seems to be the sensible option to give me a head start for next season, Mullen said.”

“Having the operation now means I can be back in full training by Christmas.

“Naturally I’m disappointed but my career is just beginning and I need to think about the future.”

“It’s devastating news for him, he’s been on a high since the start of the season, particularly with rep selection and the possibility of playing what was likely to be the last year of Andrew Johns’ career,” said Knights Coach, Brian Smith.

“At the beginning of the season he had a lot to look forward to but since Origin it’s been very difficult with small injuries and now a huge one.”

“He’s a smart kid; he knows he’s not the only one ever to get injured in footy and certainly not the only one with a shoulder injury.”

“Aku Uate has the same injury and now it looks like they might be having surgery at the same time.”

Meanwhile, there has been a change to tomorrow’s Newcastle Knights travel itinerary.

The team will now be departing EnergyAustralia Stadium at 7.45am for Newcastle Airport.

The flight for Auckland departs Sydney Airport at 11.35am.
