The World Cup 2010 South America CONMEBOL Qualifying stages continue on October 11 and 12 with several key matchups that could dictate which countries advance to the World Cup in South Africa and which countries are left on the outside.
Argentina, having played to four consecutive draws, is tied up with Brazil and Chile with 13 points in group play and will be hosting a Uruguay squad that is looking to bounce back from a disappointing draw at home against Ecuador.
Paraguay sits atop the group with 17 points after winning five of their first six matches and earning a draw in the other. They’re coming off a 2-0 victory over Venezuela and will be facing a Columbia side that is looking to get back in gear after three straight matches without a goal.
Bolivia earned a surprise 4-2 win over Paraguay in June but then fell to Ecuador before drawing with Brazil. They’ll need a win against Peru who is coming off a 1-1 draw with Argentina.
On Oct. 12 Ecuador will face off against Chile. After dropping their first three matches to Venezuela, Brazil and Paraguay Ecuador has bounced back and won two matches and earned draws in another three. As for Chile, their coming off a 4-0 blanking of Colombia and are positioned nicely in the CONMEBOL standings.
Brazil has dropped just one match thus far in the qualifying stage but has played to a surprising four draws while collecting wins against Ecuador, Uruguay and Chile. They’ll be facing Venezuela on the 12th and Venezuela is in desperate need of a win after losing their last three matches.
