The New York Giants traded Pro Bowl tight end Jeremy Shockey to the New Orleans Saints on Monday.

New York, the defending Super Bowl champions, received for a second- and a fifth-round draft pick in 2009 for Shockey, the four-time Pro Bowler.

The Saints have been trying to acquire Shockey since February. However, it wasn't until recently that the Giants were actively negotiating with N.O. to trade Shockey.

Shockey, 28, has 371 catches for 4,228 yards and 27 touchdowns during his six-year NFL career. Payton was an offensive coordinator with the Giants during Shockey's rookie season. He caught 74 passes for 894 yards that season.

This is the second blockbuster trade to occur with an NFC East team in as many days. On Sunday, the Miami Dolphis traded star defensive end Jason Taylor to the Washington Redskins for a 2009 second-round pick and a 2010 sixth-round pick.
