Serena Williams fought her way through a tough first set but cruised in the second as she knocked off Amelie Mauresmo in straight sets 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 at Wimbledon on Friday to advance to the fourth round.
Williams once again had to battle through some sloppy play as she committed 25 unforced errors in the match but when key moments came up the two-time Wimbledon champion proved she was up for the task as she broke Mauresmo’s serve on six of her nine opportunities while giving up her serve just three times.
Williams has achieved a career Grand Slam with a total of eight Grand Slam singles titles. She hasn’t won at Wimbledon since 2003.
