MATHEW Goggin has claimed the first-round lead in the US PGA Tour Memorial, carding eight birdies in a seven-under-par 65 at Muirfield Village to head Kenny Perry and Jerry Kelly by one stroke.

The Tasmanian displayed a short game to match his undoubted strengths with the longer clubs, needing just 22 putts on the ultra-quick and smooth greens.
